Desk categories worth distinguishing
- Executive desks — private-office and partner-office desks. Larger footprints (typically 6 to 8 feet wide), often with paired credenza or storage, premium finish surfaces. Brand recognition matters for client-facing and partner offices.
- Sit-stand desks — height-adjustable workstation surfaces. The category has matured significantly over the last decade; current sit-stand options are reliable, quiet, and warranty-backed. Per-desk premium over fixed-height desks runs a per-desk premium that varies by tier.
- L-shape desks — corner-fit desks with a return surface for additional work area. Work well in private offices and corner-cubicle configurations.
- Benching — shared work-surface configurations running across multiple workstations, typically with low or no panels between users. Density-favorable; common in open-plan areas where collaboration is the priority.

New vs pre-owned desks
Pre-owned executive desks from major manufacturers (Steelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth, Kimball) are widely available at substantial discounts off original MSRP. Selection criteria favor pre-owned for executive offices and partner offices where brand recognition matters: a pre-owned Steelcase Currency or Kimball Lessenger executive set reads correctly in a partner office at half the new price.
Sit-stand desks are usually new through Eggleston Office because the mechanism quality and warranty horizon matter for the height-adjustable function; the pre-owned market for sit-stand desks is smaller and condition variance is higher than for fixed-height desks. New 9to5 sit-stand options are available with two-to-five week lead times; we cross-shop them against other authorized-partnership sit-stand brands when project requirements call for it.
Benching configurations split. Pre-owned benching systems from major manufacturers exist; the larger consideration is electrical and data integration, which works similarly to cubicles. New benching from manufacturers we coordinate with is the more common path when specific panel-and-electrical configurations are required.
